Using Word instead of Label LIVE
Word and Excel have many capabilities, but they certainly weren't designed to print labels. If you already have Office, it's a "free" solution and if you are sticking to sheets (pun intended), or printing very simple, congruous data – ie all the field lengths are the same, the Word/Excel combo can work for you.
PROS
'Free' if you already have Microsoft Office
Built-in templates for sheets of labels
Barcode compatibility
CONS
Formatting can be frustrating and limiting
Barcodes require special fonts to be download
Manually adding asterisks isn't ideal and formulas to add them might not be your cup of tea
Variable data may print off the label due to size
Not all barcode types are supported
Labels on a roll can be problematic and hard to format
How does Label Live stack up? Label Live automated the Mail Merge feature so that all you have to do is import your file, such as your address spreadsheet, and Label Live will create a variable field for each column. Position the variable fields, ie Name, Address, etc, on the label and voila, you've ready to print address labels. The formatting is very intuitive. Drag the fields where you want them and Label Live will even automatically help you align or center the fields on the label. Have one really long address? Label Live allows you to select an autofit option to keep that address complete so that Uncle Joe receives his wedding invitation and you don't lose your spot in the will!
